The public health program in the College of Public Service, School of Health Sciences at Jackson State University is dedicated to providing quality graduate instruction, scientific inquiry and public service to: guide students to acquire knowledge and develop skills, competencies and attitudes that are essential for public health professional practice; encourage and promote student and faculty research develop an understanding and appreciation of ethnic and cultural diversity and the impact of such diversity on personal and community health; promote lifelong learning and professional growth
Our Public Health Program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). This accreditation applies to both the MPH (Master of Public Health) and DrPH (Doctor of Public Health) degrees (October 4, 2008- December 31, 2013). It also means that Jackson State University’s Doctor of Public Health Program is the only accredited doctor of public health program in the State of Mississippi. The program is dedicated to executing and advancing the goals of Jackson State University. Graduate studies at Jackson State University prepare students to become competent practitioners, research scientists and educators in different areas of public health to including: behavioral and health promotion; epidemiology; and health policy and management. The public health program also responds to the challenges posed by disparities in health and health care affecting minorities and other historically underserved populations.
