SHS Mission and Values

Core Values

Mission Statement

The mission of Jackson State University School of Health Sciences is to provide quality education and leadership in community-based research and practice. Through collaborative efforts with communities, the School  promotes health and seeks to prevent disease and disability with special emphasis on the underserved and at-risk populations in Mississippi, the nation, and the world.

Values

The Program identifies the following three values that undergird and drive decisions and behavior: Quality, collaboration and social justice. Administrators, faculty, and staff are committed to excellence, collaborate with others and work for fairness and equity for all persons and communities. These values are operationalized throughout the Program and are implicit in the mission statement as they permeate the Program’s goals and objectives. One of the University’s six core values (tradition, accountability, learning, nurturing, service, and responsibility) underscores quality in academic and professional pursuits, specifically noted in the core value of accountability, which stresses “excellence in scholarly activities.”
